Colorado Bend State Park | Too Cool For School

We had a great time this weekend camping with our friends in Colorado Bend State Park. Nice to get out of town and get into nature, it’s gorgeous there I was surprised how much it reminded me of New Mexico. I’ll post more images a little later so stay tuned.

Mercury Hall Wedding | Jennifer & Peter

Jennifer & Peter were married on October 10, 2008 at Mercury Hall right here in Austin, Texas. Everything about this wedding was exotic, from the gorgeous orchid blooms, to Jennifer’s stunning red sari and wings. This was one of those weddings were I just wanted to kick off my shoes and join in on the fun. Congratulations you two, what a lovely evening and the fire dancing was incredible!

The Vista on Seward Hill | Alie & Bobby’s Wedding

Alie and Bobby were married September 20th at Bannockburn Baptist Church in south Austin with a beautiful reception at The Vista on Seward Hill. We started our day at the very hip Vanity Salon off of S. Lamar, cool chicks & great hair = happy bridal party! They also are open on Sundays which I think is a big bonus for brides doing their bridal photographs. After getting duly dolled up we braved crazy event traffic and found our way to the church. There Alie finished putting on her makeup and gown with the help of her adoring bridesmaids. The ceremony was short but very sweet and the reception was beautiful, great light that time of day. It was a pleasure to be a part of their wedding and see this wonderful couple off to Hawaii at the end of the evening. A special thanks to the folks at Seward Hill & Billy of White Shoes Productions, they are such pros and made it a delight for us to photograph there. Also, several of these great shots were captured by my fabulous second shooter Chelsea, thank you Chelsea!

San Antonio Wedding | Michelle & Eric

Michelle & Eric are an amazing world traveling easy going couple that have great taste in wine. Capturing their wedding was a breeze and everything went off without a hitch. I love it when I get couples that I want to to spend time with after their wedding is done. Too bad you guys live in Dallas! In any case it was a joy working with them and despite feeling nervous Michelle looked absolutely beautiful. You could sense her relax right after they exchanged their vows and you could feel how much love these two have for each other. A special thank you to Katherine O’Brien for being a fantastic mind reading second photographer! Congratulations you guys!

Bollywood Engagement, Austin TX | Jennifer & Peter

Jennifer & Peter have the sweetest story of how they fell in love. They’re both teachers here in Austin and one day, (Jenn’s first day teaching) they ran into each other in the hall. According to Peter, Jenn was wearing checkered pants, a sure sign that she was one cool chick! Jenn apparently thought Peter was pretty cool too because not long after their students started singing “Jenn & Peter sitting in a tree…”! The rest is history, these two are a perfect match for each other and it was a joy capturing these tender moments on their engagement session. Their upcoming wedding at Mercury Hall should be a Bollywood treat!

Rock and Roll Engagement | Ashley & Brandon

I love Ashley & Brandon, they were such a blast to hang out with and I would have kept shooting all night if they let me. I can’t wait for their upcoming November wedding. They’re big concert goers and told me they’re putting posters of the concerts they attended together up at their wedding. How cool is that! We went to Breakaway Records during their engagement ( Brandon spins) and picked up some souvenirs. I found Tea For the Tillerman which was one of my favorite albums growing up and Ashley & Brandon totally surprised me by getting if for me as a little thank you gift. What can I say, they rock!

Laguna Gloria Bridal | Aline Lindemann

We had quite a few giggles and much fun capturing Alie’s bridal last week. We traipsed all over the Laguna Gloria grounds, discovering new nooks and crannies to photograph in. It was nice to get some new angles in the garden and Alie has the most classically beautiful profile I’ve ever seen. Alie’s mom also came and she was a wonderful assistant, letting us all take turns learning how to lace up the back of Alie’s gown, just in case we need to know ;). See you both in a couple of weeks!

Green Wedding at LBJ Wildflower Center | Tamara & Jack

Tamara and Jack were married on August 8, 2008, (8.8.8 supposedly the luckiest day of the year) in a beautiful ceremony at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center here in Austin. Many of you are already familiar with Tamara and Jack from previous posts, of which Tamara is now a kind of celebrity for being “that bride on the rock!”. They’re an amazing couple and I feel blessed that our paths have crossed. One of the reasons I connected with them is that they are genuinely concerned about our environment and in creating a sustainable future for the planet. They went above and beyond to make their wedding green. One of the main things they did was to offset all the carbon from the entire wedding, rehearsal dinner and wedding related showers! In addition, their venue was green, their invites were on recycled card stock, Tamara’s ring is vintage, the centerpieces & bouquets were created from native plants and then replanted after the wedding and the favors were fair trade and locally hand made. Also (yes, there’s more!) instead of having a traditional wedding shower they registered with Changing The Present so that guests could easily make donations to others in need. I think this is super cool, I had never heard of changingthepresent.org before and encourage everyone to check it out. Why not share the joy of your wedding in such a way that you give back to others and to the planet? Thank you Tamara and Jack for being such an inspiration to me and for letting me capture all the beautiful memories of your special day!

Spider House, Austin TX | Katy & Justin

Katy & Justin are a super sweet couple. They’re both brains and cuteness rolled into one and are such a good fit for each other. You can tell there’s a deep underlying friendship between these two that really binds them together. So watch out, ’cause these kids are going places! And I don’t just mean to Mexico for their wedding next year! We had a great time capturing their engagement session this weekend. Yes, I’m going to comment on the heat again, 105 degrees, come on! Does it ever quit in Texas? Thankfully Justin treated us girls to iced coffee and that helped us charge through the heat like champs. Plus it made me really chatty, sorry guys ;)! Anyways, after our caffeine infusion we cruised around Austin and checked out some new distressed/industrial feeling locations and after a little adventure in a thatch of bamboo we finished the session with a much needed nap. I know I say this alot in my posts but thank you guys for being such good sports, engagement sessions are hard work! Even for those Gap models out there :)

McNay Museum San Antonio | Michelle’s Bridals

Michelle’s San Antonio bridal was a sweltering good time. All of us, myself, Michelle, her two sisters, mom, dad and pet pug braved the heat to help make this session a success. I love the McNay Art Museum, I got there early and spent a good half hour just checking out all the amazing art they have. What a beautiful collection and great venue for a bridal or wedding. The new contemporary wing is especially cool. A lot of the more modern looking images of Michelle were taken there. The more romantic looking section of the grounds was the villa which had great ceramic tile and open arches. Doesn’t she look amazing! Stay tuned for Michelle and Eric’s wedding coming up in September.

Cabo Destination Wedding | Ashley & Ben Part II

Another day in Paradise… ahhhh. We got to wake up to this view for four days! I loved the infinity pool at the Riu. I thought I needed to set the stage a little with some resort photos. :) Here are some getting ready images of Ashley and Dawn. The oversized curlers in Ashley’s hair were so hip & retro, I loved them! She looked very calm & collected sipping on her cappuccino waiting for her makeup to get done (the resort cappuccino machine got a work out from our group). Even without it she looked amazing. The last image is a photo of her right before the ceremony. Total knock out! Wedding ceremony images to follow in my next post so stay tuned!

Destination Wedding Cabo San Lucas | Ashley & Ben Part I

We’re back from Cabo! There are so many images I adore that I had a really hard time just choosing a select few to put together for this blog post. So, I’m going to do several blog posts! Many of you have seen images of Ashley & Ben before in the Bayou Billy engagement session posted on the old LDV blog. Ashley & Ben are a fun loving couple with a lot of spunk and are a blast to be around. We flew into Cabo Wednesday morning (early!) and checked into the Rui Palace Resort which is beautiful (pics coming soon). After a lazy morning filled with margaritas and salty peanuts we all got geared up for some authentic Mexican seafood at Pancho’s Restaurant. We ended the evening amidst cigar smoke and sea foam on the breathtaking terrace of Sunset Da Mona Lisa. Stay tuned for the wedding images coming soon in a separate post. A huge thank you to the fairies at Your Very Own Fairy Godmother (Dawn, Marta & Kelly) for all of your superior organizational skills and wedding planning genius with out which we might be somewhere in Guadalajara eating tacos at a bus stop.

The New York Times is covering green weddings! How cool is that! It’s so exciting for me to see environmentally sustainable practices infiltrate the wedding industry. This is a great article for any couple contemplating the green wedding alternative. It’s chock full of wonderful links and online resources to planning an eco friendly union. Two of my personal favorites include ecochicweddings.com and protovert.com, both great for finding clever ways to green your wedding. Another recent fav not listed in this NY Times article is changingethepresent.com/weddings, where you can create a charitable wedding registry where guests can donate to a variety of non for profit organizations in addition to the conventional wedding gifts.
